Does the trip include airfare?

Costs listed on our website do not include international airfare, as airfare prices may vary because participants come from all over the globe.  We do, however, organize a group flight to and from Guayquil, Ecuador at the most competitive rate for participants.

What do I do about the surfboard?

A surfboard will be provided to you free of cost at your host location.  Participants interested in bringing their own surf board should know that airlines typically charge around $100 (each way) for every surfboard bag that is checked in.

What if my family needs to get in touch with me?

Eco Surf Volunteers will have a cell phone with us at all times that is capable of receiving and making international calls.  Additionally, opportunities will be available throughout the day for students to check email or call home.

Is Ecuador safe?

Absolutely!  In fact, according to Vision of Humanity and the 2007 Global Peace Index, Ecuador ranked above the US as a safer place to live!

What if I get hurt?

Injuries in the water are highly unlikely, but in the rare event that something does happen to you, all Eco Surf Volunteer staff are First Aid and CPR certified.  Additionally, ESV’s local bi-lingual advisers are prepared with the quickest routes to emergency centers in the area.

How far away is the nearest Medical Center?

There is a medical clinic in town.  Additionally, the town of San Vicente, only 20 minutes south of Canoa, has a hospital.

What about traveler's insurance?

Traveler's Insurance and International Medical Insurance are mandatory for everyone.  If your current plan does not cover you, try Access America, American Air Ambulance, or Aero Care who all offer Limited and Comprehensive Policies at competitive prices.

Eco Surf Volunteer surf-volunteer projects are designed to accommodate surfers and volunteers of all ages.  We completely understand the jealously that Dad may feel when you take off on your deluxe surf-volunteer adventure without him!  We suggest you tell your Dad to contact us so that we can help him plan a trip for people his own age!

Will I need extra spending money?

Eco Surf's international volunteer program includes an all-inclusive surf camp (excludes alcohol, breakfast, and lunch), but you never know when you're going to come across that incredible Balsa Wood surfboard you've always dreamed about!  You should definitely bring some extra cash, $200usd will be MORE than enough.  Ecuador uses the US Dollar, however ATM's will NOT be available to you except at the airport.
